ZIRO, Jun 20: Sojang Lapang Sports Club (SLSC) entered into the quarterfinals of
the 47th Dree Football Tournament thrashing Youngest Club Hari (YCH) 6-
Millo Tarung and Mihin Taker scored two goals each while Rubu Tachang and Rubu Rabin scored a goal each to complete the drubbing of the team.
The consolation goal for YCH was scored by Hage Ropo a minute before the final hooter.
SLSC will meet Laji Bogia Sporting Club in quarterfinal on June 23.
The second match of the day played between All Salang Sports Association (ASSA) and Zamra Club Siro (ZCS) ended in a goalless draw.

Chongkham police arrests drug peddler
ITANAGAR, June 20: The Chongkham police under Lohit district today conducted surprise raid along with the members of Chongkham Village Youth in the house of one drug peddler at Chongkham I Village. The raid was conducted following a tip from the source. Police arrested the peddler Nantewing Khamho and seized 300 grams of Brown Sugar from his possession.
Inspector Thomas Pertin of Chongkham police while informing this added that police and youth of Chongkham are making all out efforts to eradicate the prevailing drug menace in the area. During the interrogation of the arrestee, it was revealed that brown Sugar is being smuggled from Tinsukia and Dibrugarh District of Assam to Lohit District (A.P.). A case vide Namsai/PS/Case No. 58/2014 u/s 21 under NDPS has been registered and investigation is on. The Chongkham police have appealed to the general public to keep away from such drug abuse for better future.
EK DC orders for strict implementation of ILP system
SEPPA, June 20: East Kameng Deputy Commissioner in an executive order instructed police and administrative officers to enforce Inner Line Permit ILP system strictly to curb influx of outsiders without valid documents, check crime and maintain law and order.
The order has been issued amid reports of presence of large number of suspected Bangladeshi nationals in the district.
The DC has instructed ILP issuing authority to issue show cause notice to the suspected Bangladeshi nationals staying in the district to produce proof of Indian origin/citizenship within 15 days before renewal or issue of ILP. The order also asked various contractors, builders, businessmen and public leaders to relieve the suspected Bangladeshis engaged by them as labourers without valid documents within seven days.
While instructing the Town Magistrate and Seppa OC to check ILP once in a week in construction sites of private buildings and all incoming vehicles from Assam, the order further instructed Seppa Police deport all ILP defaulters with 15 days.

529 penalized for traffic offences
ITANAGAR, June 20: City Police with Capital Administration and DTO (Enforcement) imposed penalty of Rs.1,44, 200 on 529 vehicles for various traffic offences in the last three days in Itanagar and Naharlagun.
Carrying out the checking drive at Naharlagun today, a total of 201 vehicles were challaned, 12 impounded and Rs 57,900 was realized as fine from the violators.
In a similar drive here on June 18 and 19, a total of 328 vehicles were challaned, seven impounded and realized Rs 86,300 as fine from the violators.
The SC asked all vehicles owners to possess proper documents of the vehicle, fix proper number plates and park vehicles properly without causing obstruction to traffic.
KKSU seeks job for family member of late Karmi Bogo
ITANAGAR, June 20: The Kargu Kardi Students’ Union (KKSU) has sought job on compassionate ground under APSTS for a family member of late Karmi Bogo who lost his life when an APST bus hit a roadside tree in Assam on June 12 last.
In its memorandum to the general manager, APSTS seeking him to take up the matter with government, it claimed that late Bogo was the lone bread earner of the family.
Further blaming the driver of the faithful bus for the unfortunate incident alleging that he was drunk when the incident happened, it demand his termination from the job.
The government should impose serious penalty on the defaulters so that such incident do not happen, the memorandum read adding that it would protest against the department if the demands are not fulfilled.
DC inspects FCI godown to take stock of PDS items
ITANAGAR, June 20: Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Tamune Miso today inspected the FCI godown at Anini to check the position of food stock so that the district does not face any food crisis during the rainy season.
While expressing satisfaction over the current PDS rice stock, the DC, however, instructed the FCI officials to stock more rice and other PDS items.

CYO for eviction of encroachers inside IG Park
ITANAGR, June 20: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has asked to evict illegal encroachers from the premises of Indira Gandhi Park here.
In its letter to the District Forest Officer claiming that many people have encroached the southern part of the park, it appealed to repair and construct its boundary wall at the earliest.

APETA gives 7 days ultimatum to government on Mathew Dabi case
ITANAGAR, June 20: The Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers Association (APETA) has again drawn the attention to the unsolved Mathew Dabi case.
Late Dabi, a teacher by profession, had lost his life while performing Election duty on April 9 last.
In its reminder letter to the chief secretary, it gave another seven days ultimatum to the government seeking arrest and capital punishment of the miscreant/s involved in the death of late Dabi. Earlier it had given 15 days ultimatum which had ended.
If our demand is still not fulfilled by then, we will go ahead and close down all the schools in the state for justice, it warned.
It demanded arrest of the presiding officer and all the polling officers of the polling station where late Dabi was engaged and said that the SIT should expedite their findings and submit the detailed report with immediate effect saying that more than three months have passed.

Pasighat reeling under power cut
ITANAGAR, June 20: Once again Pasighat is reeling under power cut for the last few weeks despite alternative power supply provision from Assam to do away with the power crisis.
Expressing displeasure over the electricity problem, Pasighat People’s Welfare Committee, Chairman Okom Yosung said that, the completion of laying of 132 kv lines were suppose to finished by March 31 last. But the department of power couldn’t keep up their assurances to wrap up the work on dateline.

ITANAGAR, June 20: Dealing a massive blow to People’ Party of Arunachal (PPA), Laeta Umbrey, who was projected as the chief ministerial candidate of the party in the last general election, has resigned from the party in protest against the party’s decision to support Congress party candidate Mukut Mithi in the just concluded Rajya Sabha election. Mithi defeated his rival from BJP Tapen Siga by 37 votes in the RS election held yesterday. Along with 41 Congress MLAs, 5 PPA MLAs also voted for Mithi.

Flying squads carry out drive to check absentee Govt staffs
ITANAGAR, June 20: Flying Squads have detected as many as 186 staffs/officials absent in the offices located at Naharlagun and 99 staffs/officials absent in the offices located at Itanagar, informed an official statement from the department of administrative reforms.
The Flying Squads constituted by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to monitor, supervise, check the attendance has been making surprise visits in the offices located at Itanagar and Naharlagun since April 17 last. Based on the report, the Director of Geology and Mining has withheld one day’s salary of 16 of its officials who were found absent from their duties on the day of the visit.
The statement further informed that the Flying Squads constituted by the Chief Secretary will continue to carry out surprise checks in all the districts.

Justifying the protest against public hearing, Vijay Sonam, a public leader from
Bamang Assembly segment in his representation to East Kameng deputy commissioner
yesterday said that the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Talong-
Sonam further said that environmental effect of the project, relief and rehabilitation packages were not assessed and the upstream and downstream people of the region were not taken into confidence before or during signing of the agreement.
“Within a couple of years the State Govt has signed 22 Hydro Power Projects only in East Kameng district with an installed capacity of 1599.50 MW which was later revised to 1566.00 MW,” the representation claimed adding not a single tributary of the mighty Kameng River has been left out. The run of the river concept is a misnomer as Ranganadi power project is a living example for the present generation, it said.

ITANAGAR, June 20: An Expert Consultation on draft Arunachal Pradesh Forest Bill organized by the Department of Environment and Forests, GoAP has suggested for providing a greater role to the communities in forest conservation and their empowerment for the purpose.
Attending the meeting, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi emphasized the need for making forest management participative by involving the community in conservation efforts.

Alleging that State Govt is not doing anything to contain this opium menace for last many decades, Lapung said though the state Govt had notified the Rules called, Arunachal Pradesh Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Rule 2000 in the line of NDPS Act under Government of India, no major initiative has been taken so far to contain the opium cultivation and consumption.
Showering praises on Chief Secretary, Lapung assured all possible cooperation from AAPSU in his endeavour to eradicate opium menace. The AAPSU president also lauded the Deputy Commissioners of opium affected districts and other concern officers who have already responded to the clarion call of the Chief Secretary to contain opium menace.

Save our precious lake
Dear Editor,
I would like to write about the condition of Ganga lake ( Gyekar sinyi).
The lake is a precious gift of nature to Arunachal Pradesh. It is also a place of interest for tourists. Very high number of tourists visit the Lake due to its natural beauty and close proximity with the capital town. Not only for tourists, is it also historically important place related to Nyishi mythology. It is believed that all Mithuns of Taig Bida merged into the lake. It is believed that the foot print of mithun is located in the Lake.
But day by day people are forgetting the importance of Ganga Lake. The beauty and existence of lake is in stake. The nearby jungle is being cleared by some people for cultivation and earth cutting is going on. Automatically with such activities, the water level will go down. I feel that at least up to 500 meters of nearest jungle should be protected from clearance.
I would like to share an experience that I encountered while I was enjoying the beauty of lake from nearby hills.
My delight was cut short as I saw few people clearing the jungle near the lake for agriculture purpose. Being a youth leader of the area, I appealed them to stop and tried to make them aware how hazardous it is to clear the forest near our precious Gyekar Sinyi.
One of them, a middle aged man said, " Bhai, hum toh itna saal se khat raha hai lekin lake ka paani toh khattam nehi hua hai toh". I could not utter a single word in response so I left.
I'm not saying I am a genius but at least I know that water level go down gradually if such activities are not stopped at the earliest. We don’t notice it but in a decade or two, we will see receding level of water.
The fault lies with all of us. I never witness any tourism or forest department giving awareness to general public, about the ill effects of deforestation. They just keep mum on activities of public, who are unaware of consequences of deforestation.
Both departments should come forward to save our precious lake. They should host awareness program in nearby villages and encourage plantation.
If possible, forest department should provide tree saplings. Illegal entry, cutting of bamboo, felling of trees should be properly checked and there should be strict action against trespassers.
I sincerely appeal to department of Tourism and Forest to come forward and take some bold decisions to save our god gifted lake.
